Natali Tomenko
She is a contemporary visual artist of Roma descent born in 1994 in Kremenchuk, Ukraine, and based in Vienna, Austria. She earned a Master’s degree in Graphic Design from the Kharkiv State Academy of Design and Arts in Ukraine. Natali's artistic journey began with oil painting and the expressive linocut technique, where she explored the
interplay of detail and texture.
However, the full-scale Russian invasion of Ukraine in 2022 marked a significant transformation in her creative expression. Today, her focus lies in abstract acrylic and resin art, a medium through which she channels themes of resilience, identity, memory, and the human experience. Her bold use of colour and dynamic compositions not only reflect her personal journey but also serve as a form of art therapy.
Through her work, Natali invites viewers into a deeply personal yet universal dialogue about displacement, strength, and the beauty of diversity. Her artistic practice actively contributes to the public discourse on Roma cultural heritage, enriching it with her multifaceted creative voice.
Moreover, complementary to the artistic practice, she is a curator, researcher, human rights activist and cultural heritage expert. In relation to the latest, she completed her MA in Cultural Heritage Studies: Academic Research, Policy, and Management at Central European University in Vienna.
Currently, Natali is the deputy director at the ARCA: Agency for the Advocacy of Roma Culture in Ukraine. In parallel, she is working as a History and Commemoration coordinator at ERIAC: European Roma Institute for Arts and Culture in Berlin.
